WE are all special!!

This week Mrs. Finch, our school counselor, came in and did a great lesson with the kids. She read a book that emphasized the importance of loving yourself and how it is ok to be different. We may all like different things and have different interest but we ALL have a feeling heart. Then the kids wrote messages to each other on their papers. After that the kids put there face in the hole and their partner read the messages to them It was great to walk around and hear the partners tell each other to "be brave" and "love yourself."

Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! Last week we learned about how to conserve energy, produce less waste, and reuse things to take care of our great earth. On Friday we had a school-wide clean up in the Hoover neighborhood. First grade picked up 4 garbage bags of trash in our area! The field we were in looked much better after we were done cleaning.

Healthy Snacks

On Friday, we put our knowledge of the 5 food groups to the test and had a “healthy snacks taste test.” The students loved trying new foods and were proud of the fact that they were good for you too. Thank you to everyone who donated snacks.

Fun with Math

This last unit in math was all about shapes both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional. We got to build polygons using straws and twist ties and then identify the name of the shape by the number of sides. Did you know a 10-sided shape is called a decagon?

We also got a visit from Mrs. Pratt, the district math coach. She came in and did a fun activity that integrated adding, problem solving and legos!

Junior Achievement and a Visit from Herbert

What a fun-filled busy week (and two days). Our last week before spring break, Mrs. Wall came in every day and taught some great Junior Achievement lessons on wants, needs, and working together as a community. Thanks Mrs. Wall.
On Tuesday before spring break we had a couple of surprises. First of all, we made some bunny bags and when we got back from special, they were gone! The bunny had come and left us clues to find our bags. He led us all around the school and we finally found them in Mrs. Ott's room filled with treats. That silly rabbit! Secondly, at lunch the class had a visit from Herbert himself. They showed their best huskie pride with Herbert around.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Last Friday we had a special Dr. Seuss celebration. Mrs. Brudwick’s fifth graders came to our room and did four, fun stations with us. We made a thing 1 and thing 2 hat, a thing 1 and 2 drawing with our hand print, listened to Dr. Seuss stories, and did a graphing activity with 1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish. It was so fun and we were so lucky to have them come in.
